Long ago large chandeliers was seen solely in palaces or in the show place homes of the extremely rich. The Vanderbilt's were famous for having them. But few ordinary people today own the dimensions of dwelling or even a large enough bank balance for a chandelier that's several feet tall plus weighs hundreds of pounds. The modern day beautiful chandelier lamp shades provide us with an idea of what it might be like to have one of the colossal crystal chandeliers we can simply look at in awe.
In a small room maybe you have thought that fitting any kind of hanging light fittings would be out of the question as it would be overpowering in the smaller sized space. And yet you'll find chandelier style lampshades to fit the smaller sized space and in addition wall lamps having crystal droplets in the style of chandeliers can easily be bought. Small conventional chandeliers with candlestick design lights and single shades are made for many sizes of lounge room where you might normally have standard pendant lighting, provided that the ceiling isn't too low.
Certainly when you have a considerable living room which has a high ceiling or a grand staircase rising from the hallway, you could have space for a similarly lavish chandelier. You may opt for a big dozen branch conventional chandelier, a huge and breathtaking crystal creation or why don't you go for something quite elegant and tasteful such as an art glass, Tiffany or Arts & Crafts chandelier?
Oil lamps have been with us since long before electricity became the major lighting energy for our homes. An old-fashioned oil light adds the romance of a long gone day to a space and mixes well with country home decor. If you want a true vintage oil lamp then your very best resource is probably the United Kingdom where during the Victorian era nearly every home owned them and there would have been a fantastic number of styles and designs often with stunning glass lampshades in cranberry or green. Nearer to home it's possible to buy wonderful reproduction or even more contemporary styles of oil lights, lots of which now run on electrical power so zero lamp oil needed!
